Frequently Asked Questions
Questions we hear about each service, plus quotes, scheduling and permits. Can't find yours? Ask us.
Raised floors
Which raised floor do I need?
If it stays outside for good, on a roof, terrace or pool deck, see rooftop pedestal pavers. For a wedding, party or stage, see event floors. For cables and cooling indoors, see raised access floors.
Can a pedestal floor go over a sloped or uneven base?
Yes. That is what the pedestals are for. Each one adjusts to its own height, so the top stays level while the base below slopes or dips.
Do you visit before you quote?
Yes. We visit, measure and check the base, then send a written quote at no cost. Photos and rough sizes help us come prepared.
Rooftops and decks
What are pedestal pavers?
They are outdoor pavers set on adjustable supports instead of mortar or sand. The supports keep the deck level while rain drains through the joints to the roof or slab below.
Will rooftop pavers blow off in a hurricane?
Wind is the main design question on a South Florida roof. We choose paver weight and edge restraints for your site. We confirm engineering needs with your building and city before we quote.
Will pedestals damage my roof?
They rest on the surface on protection pads, without fasteners into the roof. We check the roof's condition before we quote.
Can you build over an existing roof?
Usually, after we check its condition and slope. If the waterproofing needs work, it is easier to fix before the deck goes down. We have also set pavers on pedestals right over an old tiled balcony.
How high can the deck sit?
It depends on the pedestal system and the roof. Pedestals can keep a deck low on a nearly flat roof, or raise it to meet a door threshold. We measure and confirm the height on the site visit.
Do I need a permit or engineering?
Often on high-rises. Rules differ by city and by building. We check what your job needs with the building and the city before we quote.
Can I still reach the roof drains?
Yes. Drains stay under the deck, and the pavers above them lift out. Where a floor drain sits in the deck, we can cut a paver so it stays reachable.
Event floors
How far ahead should we book?
As early as you can. Popular dates go first, so reach out as soon as you have one.
Can you cover a pool for a party or event?
We check its size, shape and depth on a site visit, then tell you what will work. Steps, ledges and curves are part of that check.
Can it go on sand?
Often, yes. Soft sand needs a wider footing under each support so the floor stays level. We check the spot and truck access first.
Which finishes do you offer?
It depends on the floor system and your event. Tell us the look you want, and we will show you the finishes that fit your date.
Can guests in wheelchairs use the floor?
Yes, with ramps where needed. Tell us about guests who need step-free access, and we will plan the ramps into the layout.
Offices and server rooms
Can you replace or match our raised floor tiles?
Often, yes. Send a photo of a panel, its size and any label on the back. We check what is still made and what fits your pedestals.
Can you work after hours?
Yes. We can schedule nights or weekends, so your office and servers keep running during the day.
Can you add a ramp?
Yes. We measure the floor height and the space at the door. Then we add a ramp or steps, with trim along the edges.
How high does a raised access floor sit?
It depends on what goes underneath. Cables alone need a lower floor than cables plus cooling air. We size it on the site visit, with your doors and ceiling height in mind.
Dance floors
Can we rent a dance floor for a wedding or party?
No, we do not rent dance floors. We install permanent floors only. For a wedding or party, we build raised floors under tents and over pools. See event floors.
What is a sprung dance floor?
It is a dance floor built on a sprung subfloor, a layered base under the surface. It gives a little under each landing, then springs back. That takes stress off dancers' joints. The marley or hardwood you see sits on top.
How much does it cost to install a dance floor?
It depends on the room, the subfloor, the surface and the condition of the base. For a price, send the room size, the styles you dance and a few photos through the quote form. We visit, measure and send a written quote at no cost.
Can you install a dance floor over concrete?
Yes, and it is the usual case. We check the slab for level and moisture, then build the sprung subfloor on top. The subfloor gives a concrete room the spring it lacks.
Should marley be taped or glued?
It depends on the room. Taped seams let you lift and replace the marley later. Glued or welded floors suit rooms where the floor stays put for a long time. We recommend one after we see the room and hear how you use it.
How long does a studio floor take?
It depends on the room size, the subfloor system and the condition of the base. Your written quote lists the work days, so you can plan classes or your opening around them.
Can you install a tap floor at home?
Yes. For tap, we suggest a wood surface over the sprung subfloor. It gives a crisp, clear sound under the taps. Tell us what else you dance, and we will plan the floor around it.
Can you put a dance floor in my garage?
Often, yes. A garage slab makes a good base once it is level and dry. The big question is heat, so plan air conditioning before the floor goes in.
Do I need to remove my old floor first?
Not always. A sprung subfloor can often go over flat, solid tile or concrete. Carpet usually comes up first. We check at the free visit.
What flooring is right for a home dance studio?
Marley suits ballet, contemporary, jazz and hip-hop. Wood suits tap, ballroom and Latin. Tell us what you dance, and we will suggest one at the visit.
Vinyl flooring
What is the difference between SPC and LVP flooring?
SPC is a rigid vinyl plank with a stone-plastic core. It feels firmer and is more forgiving of small dips in the slab. Classic LVP is a flexible plank. It feels a little softer, but it needs a flatter base. We check your slab at the free visit and help you choose.
What soundproof underlayment does my condo need?
Your association sets the rule, usually as a minimum impact sound rating called IIC. Ask your building manager for that number in writing. Some buildings also ask for the product's sound test report before work starts. We help you get the spec sheets they ask for.
Is vinyl flooring waterproof?
Most luxury vinyl plank and rigid core floors are waterproof on top. Spills and wet feet will not hurt them. Water from a leak or a damp slab can still sit underneath, so the slab gets checked first.
Can you put vinyl plank over tile?
Often, yes, if the tile is flat, solid and well bonded. Deep grout lines may need a skim coat so they do not show through. Loose or cracked tile comes up. We check at the free visit.
Do you move furniture?
Tell us what is in the rooms when you ask for a quote. Your written quote says who moves furniture and appliances, so nothing is a surprise on install day. Please clear small items and valuables first.
How long does a condo take?
It depends on the size, the old floor, the prep and the building's work hours. Your written quote includes the schedule. We plan it around elevator bookings and quiet hours.
Stairs
Which is better, wood stairs or vinyl stairs?
Both work well indoors. Solid wood treads, like oak, can be sanded and refinished later. Vinyl treads resist water and scuffs, and they can match a new vinyl floor. A simple rule: match the floor at the bottom of the stairs.
Can you replace carpet on stairs with vinyl plank?
Yes. We remove the carpet, pad and tack strips and prepare each step. Then we fit vinyl treads, risers and nosing. Damaged steps get repaired first.
Can the stairs match my new floor?
Usually. Many vinyl and wood floor lines sell matching stair nosing. Where one does not, we talk through the closest options before anything is ordered.
Do you work on curved and spiral stairs?
Yes. The photos on this page include curved and spiral stairs we have finished. Each curved tread is measured and fitted to its own step.
Do you install railings and balusters?
Yes. We install handrails and balusters, including iron balusters, to finish the stair. Tell us what you have now and what you want.
How long does a staircase take?
It depends on the number of steps, the shape of the stair and what has to come off first. Your written quote lists the work days. We also tell you when the stairs will be out of use.
Condo associations
Can new balcony flooring go right over the old tile?
Often, yes. We have set porcelain pavers on pedestals right over an old tiled balcony. We check the tile, the slope, the drains and the door threshold first.
Does the condo board need to approve a new balcony or terrace floor?
In most South Florida buildings, yes. Boards usually review the products, the layout, the schedule and the contractor's documents. We put that package together for you.
Can owners book one unit at a time?
Yes. Many owners start with their own balcony. When neighbors in the same building book together, we plan one schedule and one elevator plan. Each unit saves.
Will a pedestal floor affect our roof or balcony warranty?
Check your warranty terms first. We share the product data sheets your roofer, engineer or manager needs to review before work starts.
Do you work with the building's engineer or architect?
Yes. On high-rises, engineering and permit needs often apply. We check them with your building and the city before we quote.
Quotes and scheduling
Is the estimate really free?
Yes. We visit, measure and send a written quote at no cost and with no obligation.
Can I book a service without an estimate visit?
Yes. Choose Book a service on the quote form and pick a preferred date. We still confirm measurements on site before work starts, so the price and the date are right.
What should I send with my request?
A few phone photos, rough sizes and your timing. For rooftops, a photo of the drains and the roof edge helps. For studios, the room sizes and your opening date.
Permits
Who handles permits?
Permit and engineering needs depend on the job, the building and the city. We check them before we quote, so there are no surprises later.
Do condo associations need to approve the work?
Often, yes. Many South Florida condo boards ask for product specs and set work hours before a job starts. We help you put that package together.
