Dance studio flooring
Dance studio flooring takes more punishment than almost any floor. Classes run back to back, and every jump lands on it.
We build studio floors in two layers: a sprung subfloor for give, and a surface for grip. We install them for studios and schools across Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach.
The sprung layer takes impact off knees, ankles and backs during jumps.
Marley lets dancers turn and balance without slipping or sticking.
We set the install dates around your build-out or your class schedule.
Sprung subfloors
A sprung subfloor is a layered base that gives slightly when a dancer lands, then springs back. It sits between the concrete and the surface.
Concrete does not give at all. Over months of classes, that shock goes into dancers' shins, knees and backs. A sprung subfloor spreads it out.
We build panel subfloors on cushioning pads under marley, and batten or sleeper subfloors under hardwood. The right one depends on the ceiling height, the base and the styles you teach.
A studio floor also has to be even across the whole room. We check the slab and fix high and low spots first.

Marley surface
Marley is a performance vinyl made for dance. It comes in rolls that we lay edge to edge across the room.
Seams are taped or welded, depending on the room and how long the floor will stay. Colors include black, gray and white.
The surface grips enough for turns and balances, yet lets feet slide when they should. It also cleans up fast between classes.
Black is common in performance rooms. Light gray brightens a smaller studio.
New studio or renovation
Opening a new studio or updating an old one? The floor is one of the last trades in, so timing matters.
One South Florida tip: get the air conditioning running before the floor goes in. Summer humidity makes wood and subfloor panels swell.
Many studios and school dance rooms redo floors over the summer break, when classes pause. Plan it in the spring to hold the dates you want.
Care
A little care each day keeps marley safe and grippy.
Marley needs replacing when it wears thin, tears or no longer grips evenly. A new surface can usually go down over the same sprung subfloor.
Recent studio job
This ballroom studio in Hollywood, FL, has a finished hardwood floor with barres and mirrors along the walls.
Hardwood suits ballroom and Latin, where couples travel and spin across the room. The floor runs through the lounge and seating areas too, so the space feels like one room.

Yes, and it is the usual case. We check the slab for level and moisture, then build the sprung subfloor on top. The subfloor gives a concrete room the spring it lacks.
It depends on the room. Taped seams let you lift and replace the marley later. Glued or welded floors suit rooms where the floor stays put for a long time. We recommend one after we see the room and hear how you use it.
It depends on the room size, the subfloor system and the condition of the base. Your written quote lists the work days, so you can plan classes or your opening around them.
